Paul DAVIES

BIOGRAPHY:

Dr Paul Davies is chartered engineer with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and a research degree in Risk Assessment. He has 30 years of experience in assessing safety risks in the marine, chemicals, and oil and gas industries.

He is a Technical Manager at Lloyd’s Register and a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Risk Assessment and Marine Technology at Liverpool John Moores University.

His current work focuses on the safe use of alternative fuels for marine propulsion. This has included: input to the IGF Code as an advisor to the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency; chair of the IACS working group on risk assessment as required by the IGF Code; chair of the Cruise Ship Safety Forum’s sub-group on LNG; and input to both the European Maritime Safety Agency and the Society for Gas as Marine Fuel on safety distances and simultaneous operations during bunkering of fuel.

LECTURES

An advanced course created for graduated students and employees who are involved in the design and manufacturing phases of ships and/or offshore vessels/platforms, which will improve their skills in maritime safety as well as in environmental and security issues.

A course designed for both employed and unemployed professionals who have already developed technical skills and capabilities in maritime safety, the environment and security at sea,which will provide them with additional expertise in the safety and security fields, with respect to on-board personnel, infrastructure and the environment.
